Terms of Use

Last updated: August 4, 2026

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your access to and use of datadrivenpersonalfinance.com, its articles, calculators, tools, and email newsletter (together, the "Site"). By using the Site you agree to these Terms and to the Disclaimer and Privacy Policy, which are incorporated here by reference. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.

Not financial advice

All content on the Site is provided for general informational and educational purposes only and is not individualized financial, investment, tax, legal, retirement, insurance, or accounting advice. The author is a software engineer, not a licensed or registered financial adviser, broker, or tax professional. Using the Site does not create any advisory, fiduciary, or client relationship. The full Disclaimer applies to everything here, including the newsletter and the calculators.

Permitted use and intellectual property

The articles, figures, code, and design on the Site are © 2024–2026 Armin Norouzi unless otherwise noted. You may read the Site, share links to it, and quote short excerpts with clear attribution and a link back. You may not republish articles or figures in full, scrape the Site at scale, resell the content, or present it as your own, without prior written permission. All third-party names, logos, and trademarks mentioned belong to their respective owners and are used for identification only.

Calculators and tools

The calculators and tools run entirely in your browser and are simplified models for education. They use published 2026 tax rates, contribution limits, and historical market assumptions, and they deliberately omit many credits, surtaxes, deductions, local taxes, and edge cases. Results are estimates, not tax filings, financial plans, or guarantees of any outcome. You are solely responsible for verifying any figure against official sources and, where it matters, a qualified professional before acting on it. Nothing you enter into a calculator is transmitted to or stored by the Site.

Acceptable use

You agree not to use the Site to break any law; to interfere with, overload, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Site or its infrastructure; to introduce malware; or to copy or redistribute the content in violation of the section above. You must be at least 16 years old to use the Site or subscribe to the newsletter.

Newsletter

The newsletter is sent only to people who subscribe and confirm their email address. Every email includes the sender's identity, a mailing address, and one-click unsubscribe, which is honored promptly. Newsletter content is subject to these Terms and the Disclaimer. See the Privacy Policy for how your email is handled.

Third-party links

The Site links to third-party websites and sources. Those links are provided for convenience and reference and are not endorsements. The author is not responsible for the content, accuracy, availability, or privacy practices of any external site, which you access at your own risk.

Copyright complaints

The author respects intellectual-property rights. If you believe content on the Site infringes your copyright or other rights, email newsletter@datadrivenpersonalfinance.com with a description of the work, its location on the Site (URL), your contact details, and a statement of your good-faith belief that the use is unauthorized. The author will review and, where appropriate, remove or correct the material promptly.

Feedback

If you send suggestions, corrections, or ideas about the Site, you agree the author may use them freely, without restriction, attribution, confidentiality, or compensation.

No warranty

The Site and all content are provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. The author does not warrant that the Site will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free, or that any figure is complete or current.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the author and owner shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or exemplary damages (including financial losses) arising from your use of, or reliance on, the Site or its content or calculators. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law, including for fraud, gross negligence, or under applicable consumer-protection legislation.

Cap on liability

Where liability cannot lawfully be excluded but can be limited, and to the fullest extent permitted by law, the total aggregate liability of the author and owner to you for all claims arising out of or relating to the Site, its content, the newsletter, or the calculators, whether in contract, tort (including negligence), statute, or otherwise, will not exceed one hundred Canadian dollars (CAD $100), or, if greater, the total amount you paid to access the Site in the twelve months before the claim arose (which for a free site is nil).

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the author and owner from any claims, losses, or expenses arising out of your misuse of the Site or your violation of these Terms or any law.

Severability, waiver, and entire agreement

If any provision of these Terms is found invalid or unenforceable by a court or regulator of competent jurisdiction, that provision will be limited or severed to the minimum extent necessary and the remaining provisions will stay in full force. A delay or failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver of it or of any other provision. These Terms, together with the Disclaimer and Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and the author about your use of the Site and supersede any prior understanding on that subject. You may not assign your rights under these Terms; the author may assign them to a successor or acquirer of the Site.

Changes to the Site and these Terms

The author may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Site at any time, and may update these Terms. Material changes will be reflected in the "last updated" date above. Continuing to use the Site after changes take effect means you accept the revised Terms.

Governing law, venue, and time limit

The Site is operated from Ontario, Canada. These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable there, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Subject to any mandatory rights you have where you live, the courts located in Ontario, Canada have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Site, and you submit to the personal jurisdiction of those courts. To the extent permitted by law, any claim relating to the Site must be started within one (1) year after it arises, or it is permanently barred. Nothing in this section removes any mandatory consumer- or data-protection right, or any right to bring proceedings in your local courts, that the law of your place of residence guarantees you.
