How this works
The paycheck hourly rate assumes the job costs only your paid hours. It doesn't. We add the hours the job really takes (unpaid overtime plus commute and getting-ready time across your work days) to get your real hours. Then we subtract the money you only spend because of the job to get your real take-home.
Real wage = real take-home ÷ real hours. A 90-minute daily round trip plus prep, a few hours of unpaid overtime, and a few hundred dollars a month of work-driven spending can quietly cut a wage by a third or more.
